Podcasts first hit the scene in 2004, but over the past few years, we’ve seen an explosion of this audio content across a variety of topics. That is because 17 percent of the American population consume this media on a monthly basis; that percentage has increased 12% from 2013 to 2015, and it certainly includes the GNGF office.
We are podcast junkies; we listen to them while we exercise, do chores, commute to work, and more. We’ve compiled of some of our favorite shows that are especially useful for legal professionals. Check them out!
LEGAL MARKETING
Legal Toolkit, hosted by the Legal Talk Network, is a resource for law practice management professionals. Each month, hosts Heidi Alexander and Jared Correia invite enterprising law professionals to discuss the services, ideas, and programs that have improved law practices.
Our very own Jabez LeBret has been a guest on this podcast twice to discuss reputation management and technology useful to small law firms.
Also from Legal Talk Network comes Lunch Hour Legal Marketing, a joint effort from several bar associations around the country. Each month the show presents a new webinar featuring a nationally known legal expert discussing a range of legal marketing topics.
GNGF CEO Mark Homer hosted one of these webinars last October where he discussed legal marketing trends in 2015–16.
TECHNOLOGY
Coming to you from Gimlet Media is Reply All, “a show about the Internet”, hosted by Alex Goldman and PJ Vogt. If you want to stay on top of online trends but don’t have hours to spend on Twitter (who does?) this show is perfect for you.
Not only does the show give insight into internet memes you never understood, it also takes a human interest approach a la “This American Life”, making it an entertaining and engaging listen perfect for your morning commute.
BUSINESS
NPR, thought by many to be the originator the story-telling podcast model, brings us Planet Money, a bite-size view into what’s going on in the global economy. Staying abreast of economic trends is crucial to any business owner, and this show makes keeping in the loop easy and fun.
COMEDY
This brand new podcast brings together a lawyer, Mike Meadows, with a very much non-lawyer,Tommy Smirl, to discuss current events and how they relate to the law. Learn about quirky topics like Pokemon GO! and trespassing or the legality of recording phone calls while laughing your head off.
