Have you heard of If This Then That (IFTTT)?
IFTTT is a platform that connects your apps together to make your life easer, or at least more interesting.
You can do a number of different connections. Here’s an example: connect your FitBit and your text messages; when you reach your daily goal, IFTTT will send you a text with a message of your choice. Another example is connecting a news site with your email so that you get e-mail when the President signs a new bill into law.
Fun right? But how do we apply it to digital marketing for law firms?
Here’s one way: reputation management. You could use the platform is to have it send you a notification when your website has been mentioned online. This way, you can easily know where you are being mentioned and by whom.
What if you set up that same connection with your competitor’s name? Then, you could see when their names were mentioned, and by whom, and you can determine if it is a source or link you’d want to pursue as well.
You could also receive notifications from IFTTT about your practice areas, industry news, or local subjects so that you can acknowledge those topics in your content or social media. Or you could receive notifications about questions people are searching on the web surrounding your practice areas. What a way to determine what topic to write about that month? Finding PR opportunities through publications and other news sources could be another application. The possibilities seem endless.
While these options would not automatically get you a link, they would put you on the right path to finding that source, making that connection, and potentially gaining a link.
