Google searches performed on desktops are down 1 billion from last year
The newest search rankings from comScore finally came out and showed that compared to last year, the amount of searches performed on a desktop are down 1 billion from 2014. This does not mean that people are searching less on Google, but it shows that people are moving away from desktop searches in favor for more modern forms of search, such as mobile, voice, and wearable technologies. How is your law firm’s mobile site?
Panda is now part of Google’s core algorithm
Google announced that the Panda update, an update that focuses on content to interpret the quality of a page, is now part of Google’s core algorithm. What exactly does that mean to your law firm? Having something become integrated into the core algorithm means that Google has tested it and is confident that it is working well enough to not need updated in the future.
Google is making the shift towards depth of content as opposed to quantity. It is more important than ever to give users quality content and brand your law firm as the expert in your area. For more information on the Panda algorithm, click here.
Penguin Update On the Horizon?
With Panda being integrated into the core algorithm just a week ago, many search experts were seeing fluctuations in search. When pressing the issue we found out that it was not a Penguin update, but we are expected to have one this quarter as stated by Gary Illyes.
With a refresh on the horizon it is important to check who is linking to your law firm’s website. If you notice backlinks coming from shady sources your time to add them to a disavow file is running out. Google still treats backlinks as one of their most important ranking factors, so quality backlink acquisition and link management continue to be extremely important.
